When Hank the Cowdog, Head of Ranch Security, follows Little Alfred to an archaeological excavation, he runs into trouble in the form of a gorgeous golden-haired lady dog, a peanut butter sandwich, and an enticing, ancient, buffalo bone.
When Slim is left to take care of the ranch and little Alfred, who has the measles, he gets sick himself and a freak blizzard sets in, so it is up Hank to try to keep things under control.
With the threat of prairie fires looming, security expert Hank the Cowdog takes on extra duties as Head of Fire Safety, while trying to resist the mouth-watering hens in Sally May's chicken house.
When Hank the Cowdog hears reports that coyotes are planning to go after the chickens, he manages to resist the temptation to join them and instead thwarts their attack, earning Sally May's forgiveness, and persuading Loper to stop feeding him Cheapo brand dog food.
Hank the Cowdog tries to help when a burglar comes around Slim's house, but Hank is not sure he has what it take to bring the criminal down after he is sprayed by his super-stinky weapon, a skunk.
Hank the Cowdog is not concerned when a parrot comes to live at the ranch, and continues his work helping Sally May and Loper, but when they start telling him to do things like bark louder and pull up the flowers, Hank starts to get suspicious.
